If you are in pain or have any swelling, you can reach us on 02392 825955 to arrange an emergency appointment.
We understand how distressing a dental emergency can be and will do our very best to see you as soon as we can.
By contacting us quickly, we can help to reduce toothache and any potential damage or complex treatment. We will arrange an emergency appointment only if it is absolutely necessary to help relieve pain or provide essential treatment.
What is a dental emergency?
A dental emergency is if you require immediate attention in order to minimise the risk of serious medical complications or prevent long-term dental complications. Symptoms may include:
- Extreme or severe dental or facial pain (unable to control with over-the-counter medication)
- Swelling – especially rapidly increasing swelling, specifically around the throat or eye
- Trauma to the face/mouth and/or teeth/gums
- Uncontrollable bleeding following extractions
If you have any of the above, please contact us straight away on 02392 825955. If you’re unable to reach us, please go to Accident and Emergency. If you’re unsure whether you should go to A&E, contact the NHS helpline on 111 who will be able to advise you.
When do I need an urgent appointment?
An urgent appointment is required in between your scheduled dental health checks if you require urgent, but not immediate, attention. Symptoms may include:
- Severe dental or facial pain (unable to control by over-the-counter medication)
- Acute infection in gum or soft tissue of mouth, face or neck
- Uncontrollable bleeding
If you have any of the above, please contact us as soon as possible on 02392 825955 to arrange an emergency appointment at Clarendon Dental, during our opening hours, to prevent further pain or increased symptoms.
My appointment is important but not urgent – What do I do?
You may require dental assistance, but you may not need to be seen straight away. Your dental care is important and will need to be booked in at the next available opportunity, whilst allowing urgent emergency care to other patients at the practice. Non-urgent dental requests may include:
- No pain or swelling
- Aesthetic problems such as dislodged crowns and bridges
- Broken dentures
- Hospital referral letter requesting an appointment
- Permanent restoration/filling appointment
- Non-traumatic problems with orthodontic appliances
- Second opinions
- Chipped teeth
- Surgical extractions, specifically wisdom teeth with no pain
