  • Amy Williams

Highly recommend - I was deciding for a few years, whether to get braces to straighten my teeth. I finally took the plunge. Dr Skjalg Johnsen & Elena were brilliant.

Dr Johnsen explained my treatment step-by-step , it was all very well organised, If I had any concerns, they would explain it to me. If you are thinking of getting braces to straighten your teeth, I would definitely recommend Clarendon Dental. I am so pleased with my teeth, and love smiling now! Thank you so much.

  • Isobel Tucker

I received orthodontic treatment from Dr Skjalg and Elena from April 2021 to January 2024. Initially I had lingual braces, then decided to change to Invisalign. Over this period, I moved away from the practice, making some appointments more challenging to attend. Despite the pressures and changes of life during my treatment, Skjalg and Elena were extremely patient, supportive, and utmost professionals.

It was a long treatment but I’m very glad I chose Clarendon Dental, and I’m very happy with the results that were achieved. I also visited the dentists at Clarendon Dental twice and they were brilliant as well. I would recommend Clarendon Dental to anyone seeking a high standard of orthodontic or dental treatment, from a very caring and supportive practice.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is orthodontics, and how can it benefit me?

Orthodontics is a specialised branch of dentistry that focuses on correcting irregularities in the alignment of teeth and jaws. Often called teeth straightening, orthodontics can improve both the functionality and the aesthetics of your smile. Common benefits include enhanced oral health, easier hygiene care and maintenance, and increased self-confidence as you show your new straighter and more aligned smile.
  • At what age should orthodontic treatment be considered?

Orthodontic treatment is not age restricted. In the past it has often been associated with adolescents, however recently there has been a massive rise in adults seeking orthodontics and reaping the benefits. Early intervention for children’s orthodontics is recommended around the age of seven, but orthodontic solutions are effective at any age. Advances like clear aligners make treatment extremely discreet for adults or self-conscious teens.
  • How long does orthodontic treatment typically take?

The length of orthodontic treatment varies based on each individual case. On average, treatment can last from 12 to 24 months. Factors such as the complexity of the case, patient compliance, and the chosen orthodontic method influence the treatment duration. Your orthodontist in Southsea will provide a personalised estimate during the initial consultation.
  • Are there discreet options for orthodontic treatment?

While some discomfort is normal during the adjustment period, orthodontic treatment is generally not painful. Patients may experience mild soreness or pressure after adjustments, but it usually subsides within a few days. Over-the-counter pain relievers and orthodontic wax can help alleviate any discomfort.
  • Are clear aligners comfortable?

Yes, the aligners are custom made and designed with comfort in mind. We use accurate scans to ensure a secure and precise fit and no metal brackets or wires are present to irritate your mouth.
  • Will I need to wear retainers after my treatment?

Yes, you will need to wear retainers to keep your teeth in their new positions following your orthodontic treatment. Teeth have a habit of moving out of place, so you will need to wear retainers on a part time basis (usually overnight) for as long as you wish your teeth to stay straight. You will be given fixed or removable retainers.
